It is with great pleasure that I support the re-election of Dr. Barbara Struthers as a Village of Deerfield Trustee.

I’ve observed Barbara’s commitment to our community beginning with her participation on the Village Center Development Commission through her current role as Village Trustee.

Over the years, she has and continues to work tirelessly to upgrade our downtown area for the benefit of the entire community. The ongoing results of Barbara’s efforts positively impact the Village of Deerfield through increased sales tax revenues, improved pedestrian safety and traffic circulation, improved building aesthetics and making our downtown area more pedestrian and business friendly. This is no easy task. It requires understanding local businesses, their needs and constraints while protecting the interests of the individual Deerfield family and resident. She understands that for our community to have a healthy downtown area, the businesses have to be healthy, meet the needs of residents and be allowed to work in a positive, collaborative way with the Village.

I’ve seen Barbara ask perceptive questions of petitioners and residents alike, balancing the needs of both in an effort to make an informed decision that will benefit our community for many years. She explains how she arrives at her decisions and that is helpful for all involved. Barbara brings independence, intelligence, integrity, creativity and hard work to the Village of Deerfield. We, her neighbors and fellow residents benefit greatly from her efforts.

Dr. Struthers and I were members of the
(VCDC) Deerfield Village Center Downtown Commission, for over 7 years. One of our challenges was our involvement with the redevelopment of our downtown. The commission served as an advisory capacity to the Deerfield Board of Trustees.

I also know Barbara in another area. She appeared on my TV show, Adler’s Alley , as a guest representing the Mosquito Abatement Commission, several times.

Because of my interest and involvement I attend many Board meetings thereby observing participation of Trustees.

In every area I mentioned, Barbara was very knowledgeable, informed, caring, and extremely well prepared. . She is always willing to listen to other people’s opinion in a respectful and attentive manner.

Barbara always looks at a situation from both sides, and makes decisions based on intense research .She did not just “say yes or no” on any matter. She explains how she arrived at her conclusions. She listens intently to views and opinions that might differ from hers.

In addition to the above she has a sincere and honest approach to solving problems, standing out as one of our best trustees.

For residents that care about the future of Deerfield we must
